When the 2014 Giro d’Italia Grande Partenza (Big Start) begins, all eyes will be on Belfast and Dublin. The world’s best riders will begin their fight for the famous Maglia Rosa, the leader’s pink jersey, on Irish soil.
Beginning in 1909, the Giro d’Italia is one of the world’s largest and most recognised sporting events. Over 12 million spectators line the roads to cheer on the best riders in their quest for glory. Broadcast in over 175 countries, spanning all continents and reaching an audience of 800 million, the Giro will put Ireland and its beautiful landscapes, North and South, firmly in the spotlight.

Following the 2014 Giro d’Italia Grande Partenza, an official Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia will be launched in Northern Ireland. A Gran Fondo invites cyclists of all ages and levels to participate in a challenging ride, with an expo and pasta party adding to the festival atmosphere. This annual event will remain as a great legacy of the Giro’s visit to the island of Ireland.
Launched in the US in 2012, the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia celebrates the best in cycling with Giro and Italian flavour. Former Giro d’Italia champions take part, giving ordinary cyclists the opportunity to ride alongside some of the sport’s biggest heroes.

The Tour of Ireland (2007-2009) attracted the world’s best riders and teams, gained a prominent national and global television broadcast and was embraced by Irish fans in their hundreds of thousands.
Returning in 2014, the world’s top cycling teams will race throughout the country, embracing cities, towns and communities. We aim to bring strong brands into innovative sponsorship programmes with the Tour of Ireland and create a winning formula for the partners involved and the event.
